West Bengal Prevention and Control of Water Pollution Board was established right after the enactment of the first federal environmental regulation of the country. However, after the enactment of the Air Act, 1981 the board was entrusted with the responsibility to implement the provisions of Air Act and Water Act, both.
Moreover, its name was changed to West Bengal Pollution Control Board vide Notification No. ENV/337/2W-4/83 dated 14.04.1983.
