On January 25, 1989, the Indian standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards following meticulous finalization by the Nutrition Sectional Committee and by the Agricultural and Food Products Division Council.

Bis certification is a mandatory standard on ready-to-eat protein-rich extruded foods (IS 9487:1980 Specification for ready-to-eat protein-rich extruded foods) published. This is nutritive food and covers the minimum levels of nutrients and proteins, namely vitamins, minerals, etc.

According to Amendment No. 1, September 1990, to IS 12566: 1989, “Ready-to-eat” extruded snack specification. This standard is considered to be the rule authorized by the Government of India under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, of 1954. It is considered the Standard of Weight and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977. However, this standard of restriction is imposed where it is required or applicable. In this article, you will explore the benefits of BIS certificate registration and details on BIS certification for ready-to-eat food products.

BIS Certification on Ready-To-Eat Foods

The Bureau of Indian Standards, through its Ready to Eat Foods and Specialized Products Sectional Committee FAD 24, has formulated the following indigenous Indian Standards: IS 18246: Indian Standard Specification for Ready-to-Use Idli batter IS 18269: Indian Standard Specification for Ready-to-use Dalvada Batter.

The use of ready-to-use idli batter, dosa batter, and dal vada batter has gained significant popularity among consumers due to the labor-intensive nature of grinding. This convenient option ensures that consumers can enjoy the products without compromising on quality or safety. The mentioned standards outline processing methods, composition, packaging requirements, and quality control measures for dosa batter, Idli batter, and dal vada batter.

A manufacturer with these standards can guarantee quality and safety, enhancing consumer satisfaction and trust. The Indian Standards IS 18246, IS 18253, and IS 18269 are crucial for governing ready-to-use batter products, ensuring consumer convenience, food safety, industry standardization, and cultural preservation.
